The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday temporarily attached immovable properties worth over Rs 6 crore of Maharashtra Chief Minister and brother-in-law of Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray in a money laundering case.
The ED raided a company owned by Uddhav Thackeray’s brother-in-law Shridhar Madhav Patankar and attached its properties. These properties include 11 residential houses in the ‘Nilambri’ project located in Vartak Nagar, Thane. Investigation is on in this matter.
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut criticized the ED soon after the action, saying the agency has closed its offices in states like Gujarat (where BJP is in power). He also referred to the ED’s questioning of Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and MP Abhishek Banerjee and said that neither Bengal nor Maharashtra will succumb to this harassment.

Raut told news agency ANI, “The ED seems to have closed its office in other big states like Gujarat. Everything is happening in Maharashtra itself. Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee is also being harassed. But Neither Bengal will bow nor Maharashtra will break.”
Raut further said that Patankar’s relationship is not limited to Thackeray only, but he is also a member of his family. He said, “Sridhar Madhav Patankar is a member of our family, his relationship is not limited to the CM of Maharashtra. ED is taking a lot of action in those states where BJP is not in power.

The Shiv Sena-led coalition government in Maharashtra has been accusing the BJP of misusing central agencies against opposition leaders. Shiv Sena and BJP broke their years-old alliance in 2019, after which Shiv Sena, along with Sharad Pawar’s NCP and Congress, formed the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.
The ED had earlier arrested two Maharashtra cabinet ministers and NCP leaders – Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh – in money laundering cases. Both are currently behind bars.
