- Will be realized through Swachh Bharat Mission
Nagpur. Lakhs of liters of sand water coming out of Chicholi-Khaparkhed and Pota Chankapur villages in Savaner tehsil of the district is being released into the Kolar river, threatening the existence of the river itself. To make this river pollution free, now the Zilla Parishad will set up a sewerage treatment plant ie STP in the village.
In fact, the NGP had ordered the construction of STP in June 2020 to save the river from getting polluted, otherwise it warned to be ready to pay a fine of 5 to 10 lakh rupees every month. It was only after the NGP’s warning that there was a stir in the Zilla Parishad administration to save the Kolar river.
The NGP had given a strict order to complete the project by March 2021, but due to lack of funds, the work has not started yet. But now with the help of Zilla Parishad Rural Water Supply Department, work is being done to make STP available by providing funds from Swachh Bharat Mission.
MPCB did not give funds
The STP is expected to cost Rs 3.56 crore. The Zilla Parishad had sent a proposal for the said fund to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, but the board refused to give the fund. After that an attempt was made to realize the said project at low cost through Neeri’s wet land technology, but its cost was also reported to be around Rs 2.50 crore. Due to which the matter got postponed again. Now the Zilla Parishad has decided to prepare it through Swachh Bharat Mission, on which 60 lakh rupees will be spent.
land set up
After the order of the NGP, the problem of space for the plant had also arisen in front of the Zilla Parishad. In 2020, the then District Magistrate had resolved the said problem. He arranged for 0.99 hectares of land in Chicholi. He has also given its approval on 1 January 2021. The official said that at present, 60 lakh rupees will be spent on this project through the Swachh Bharat Mission. Had the MPBC not refused to give the funds, the project would have been realized by now.
