Seema Kamat, wife of Nitin Kamat, co-founder of stockbroking firm Zerodha, is fighting a battle with cancer. Nitin Kamat has shared his wife Seema’s battle with cancer on Twitter on International Women’s Day, so that others can spread awareness about it and take inspiration from it.
Nitin Kamat said in a tweet, “My wife Seema was diagnosed with breast cancer last November. She has done her best to raise awareness about cancer and the importance of regular health checkups, health insurance and overall health and wellness. Decided to share the journey and learnings. Happy Women’s Day.” Along with this, Kamat has shared a link to a blog page, where Seema has explained in detail about her cancer journey.
Seema’s blog is titled, “I knew I was the healthiest person, yet I got cancer!” In the blog, she has written about every step she took before and after being diagnosed with cancer and how she is fighting the battle against this deadly disease.
Seema was diagnosed with breast cancer in November last year and has had two chemotherapy sessions so far. It is stage 2 cancer and is not older than 2 years.

Seema wrote, “Till a few weeks ago, I had not spoken to anyone about my cancer except my family and a few friends. I am a private person. I realized during all my tests and the process of finding the best doctor that I might not be talking to people about it because cancer, like mental illness, is seen as a taboo subject in our country. Goes.”
Seema has also written in the blog about her family, her armyman father, her first meeting with her husband, her stint as a cabin crew member in India and Singapore and the birth of her son Kiaan in 2015. Along with this, he told how his life changed completely as soon as he was diagnosed with cancer in the test.
She writes that she has lump cancer in her breast and regrets that she did not get it tested a few years ago, when its initial symptoms started showing.
Kamat decided to get treatment in India itself and confirmed that the treatment related to it is very good in the country as well.
Seema also talks about some of the difficulties she experienced during this entire process. These include first post-surgical mastectomy and second, hair loss after chemotherapy. After the surgery, Seema had to have a pipe installed to collect the waste fluid.
She writes, “I had pipes installed near my armpits and breasts, through which the waste fluid was collected in a container for about 3 weeks.”
Before the start of chemo, Seema had to go through another important step.
She writes, “Before the start of chemo, I had another surgery to place a port near my left shoulder so that chemo drugs could be given. Permanent port (up to 5 years) is more convenient than temporary intravenous (IV). Port implant surgery is supposed to be easy, but it was not that easy for me. I’m still not used to having external equipment in my body.”
Seema had already cut her hair very short to deal with the problem of hair fall after chemo.
Recalling her chemo experience, Seema writes of how one of the chemo drugs made her feel a little better, but the pain started two days later.
She writes, “Surprisingly I didn’t feel anything for the next two days after chemo. I thought it was too easy, but then all of a sudden I started having pain. For the next 5 to 7 days I felt like a truck Many problems like weakness, joint pain, diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, loss of taste. However thankfully it ended within 7 days.”
Nitin and Seema have now shaved their heads and are waiting for Seema’s hair to come back. He discovered how important it is to talk about cancer. This is the reason why both of them have decided not to wear wigs.
Seema now emphasizes to others the importance of a good health insurance policy and regular health checkups.
Her blog has many pictures of her, her family and husband and her during her hospitalization. However, to deal with such a crisis, Seema has also joked a lot in the blog. Seema has two more chemo sessions left. You can read his journey on seema.page.
