Lucknow: The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has claimed record payment during its tenure amid the demand for payment of dues of sugarcane farmers. The state government is also planning to pay bonus to the farmers amid the opposition’s attack on the low sugarcane price amid the hustle and bustle of the assembly elections. The officials of the sugarcane department have prepared a proposal to give a bonus of Rs 10 quintal in the current crushing season, which can be put up for approval in the cabinet meeting soon. Recently, the Yogi government had increased the sugarcane price for the current crushing season. The displeasure of sugarcane farmers is about the marginal increase in sugarcane prices in the last three years. He says that due to increase in cost and inflation, sugarcane price has been increased by only Rs 25 per quintal in the last three years.
Opposition parties have also been continuously attacking the state government for payment of sugarcane arrears and low prices. Recently, BJP’s Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi even wrote a letter to the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of the state government regarding sugarcane prices. Claiming to be the highest ever payment of dues of the farmers of the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has said that the payment figure has crossed Rs 1.5 lakh crore during its tenure.
