WPI Inflation: Inflation based on Wholesale Price has come down to 12.96 percent last month as compared to 13.56 percent in December, 2021.
WPI inflation: Despite the increase in the prices of food items, the rate of increase in wholesale inflation has slowed down in January 2022. According to the data released by the government, the wholesale price-based inflation came down to 12.96 percent last month. WPI inflation was 13.56 per cent in December 2021 and 2.51 per cent in January 2021. This inflation has remained in double digits for the tenth consecutive month since April 2021.

Food items became expensive
- According to the data, the inflation of food articles rose to 10.33 percent in January 2022. At the same time, in December 2021 it was 9.56 percent. Similarly, the price increase of vegetables reached 34.85 percent in the month of January, which was 31.56 percent in the previous month.
- Inflation of pulses, cereals and paddy has increased on a monthly basis. Inflation in eggs, meat and fish stood at 9.85 per cent in January. On the other hand, the price of potato decreased by 14.45 percent and that of onion by 15.98 percent during the month.
- Inflation in manufactured goods declined to 9.42 per cent in January. It was 10.62 percent in December, 2021. Inflation in the fuel and energy segment stood at 32.27 per cent in January as against 32.30 per cent in the previous month.

Reserve Bank did not change the repo rate
The Reserve Bank did not make any changes in interest rates including the repo rate last week. RBI has retained the repo rate at 4%. At the same time, the reverse repo rate also remains at 3.35%. To boost growth and manage inflationary pressures, the repo rate has been kept at 4 per cent for the 10th time in a row.
