Bhopal: A 21-year-old female passenger was allegedly raped by a vendor in the pantry car of a moving train near Itarsi railway station on Friday night in Madhya Pradesh. The matter has come to the fore. Government Railway Police (GRP), Bhopal Superintendent of Police (SP) Hitesh Chaudhary said that the alleged incident took place in the pantry car of Sampark Kranti train going from Yesvantpur (Bengaluru) to Hazrat Nizamuddin (Delhi) on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. The suspected accused was caught at Jhansi railway station.
The victim had boarded the AC coach of the train from Bhusaval (Maharashtra) as an unauthorized passenger and was asked by a railway employee to move to the general coach, the official said. According to the Superintendent of Police, however, instead of going to the general coach, she went in the pantry car where a vendor allegedly raped her.

Chaudhary said that after the incident, the victim got down at Bhopal station in an inebriated condition and told the incident to the GRP. According to him, after halting in Bhopal for half an hour, the train proceeded while the police took some vendors off at Bhopal for questioning.
The officer said that on the basis of the description given by the mentally disturbed victim, a suspect was caught from the train in Jhansi on Saturday morning. He said that by registering a case under the relevant sections of IPC, the police is investigating it. (agency)
