New Delhi: At present, a steady drop in mercury is being recorded in Delhi and Rajasthan. Moderate to light fog was observed in many parts of the capital on Saturday morning. India Meteorological Department (IMD) gave this information. According to the IMD, the fog is ‘extremely dense’ with visibility between zero to 50 metres, ‘dense’ between 51 and 200 metres, ‘moderate’ between 201 and 500 meters and visibility between 501 and 1000. Fog is considered ‘light’.
The minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 6.1 degrees Celsius, one degree Celsius below normal. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 16 degree Celsius. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital stood at 286 at 9 am on Saturday as against 348 at 4 pm on Friday. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’ and 401 and above Between 500 is considered in the ‘severe’ category.
The relative humidity in the city was recorded at 95 per cent at 8.30 am. Meteorologists have predicted cold weather on Saturday. Dense fog reduced visibility to 50 meters in Delhi’s Safdarjung and Palam on Friday. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 15.4 degrees Celsius on Friday, five degrees below the season’s average.

At the same time, cold wave and fog are continuing in many parts of Rajasthan. Sikar was the coldest place in the state on Friday night at 2.8 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, Chittorgarh, Fatehpur (Sikar), Nagaur, Dabok and Anta (Baran) in the state recorded minimum temperatures of 3.2, 3.4, 3.9, 4.4 and 4.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
On the other hand, Airanpura (Pali), Pilani and Jaipur recorded five, 6.9 and 7.9 degrees Celsius, respectively, at night. According to the department, the weather will remain more or less similar in the state for now.
