The leader of AAP, the main opposition party in Punjab, said, “Only good education can bring about equality in the society and the right to equality enshrined in the Constitution can be ensured in the true sense.”
Assembly elections in the state are due this year. Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal also visited the Ram Tirath temple, Maharishi Valmiki’s ashram and the birth place of Lord Rama’s sons Luv and Kush here. On this occasion, Sant Samaj also honored Kejriwal.

He said, “I guarantee to provide education to all Dalit children so that they can fulfill the dreams of Maharishi Valmiki and Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. Equality can be brought in the society only by giving good education to the children of poor and downtrodden. Addressing the media, Kejriwal said, “Both Maharishi Valmiki and Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar gave great importance to education. It was the dream of Babasaheb Ambedkar that every child of India, whether poor or rich, should get a good education.
He claimed that but it is very unfortunate that today due to the poor condition of government schools, children of Dalits and poor are not getting good education. “All the parties made many promises related to better education for the Dalit children but did not actually take any steps to make it possible,” he said.
Kejriwal made four promises related to the education of Dalit children, sanitation workers, saints and people engaged in sewer repair work. Emphasizing on the education of poor and underprivileged children, he made the first promise and said, “AAP, if voted to power, will provide opportunity to all poor and deprived children of Punjab for good and free education.”
The AAP leader agreed with the demand of the Sant Samaj to dissolve the Ram Tirath Temple Shrine Board. He promised, “AAP will accept the demand of the Sant Samaj and dissolve the Shrine Board and hand over the responsibility of running the temple to the society.” Kejriwal made the third promise for the sanitation workers. He said that the temporary sanitation workers of Punjab are forced to work at very low wages. They also have to struggle to meet their daily needs.
The AAP leader said the party would ensure that all the sanitation workers are regularised. He said, “It is very unfortunate that even in the 21st century, the workers engaged in cleaning the sewer have to clean the mess by hand. In Delhi, we have given kits to all the employees engaged in cleaning the sewer. When AAP will form the government, no sewer worker in Punjab will have to scavenge by hand. Kits will be provided to all sewer workers.” (agency)
