Bhartiya Pravasi Divas: Today is Indian Pravasi Day. This day is celebrated every year on 9 January in the country. This day has a special significance. This day is celebrated to remember the contribution of the overseas Indian community in the development of India. This day was first celebrated in the year 2003. This day is special for Indians. This is because Indian people are illuminating the name of India by staying abroad.
Actually, on 9 January 1915, Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa. Bapu became one of the greatest expatriates who led India’s freedom struggle and freed India from British rule.
The purpose of Bharatiya Pravasi Diwas is to provide a platform for non-resident Indians to think about India, express their feelings as well as have a positive interaction with their countrymen. Along with this, to inform the people of India about the achievements of the NRI brothers and make the NRIs aware of the expectations of the countrymen from them.
At the same time, creating a network of NRIs in 110 countries of the world, telling common people about the role of NRIs in India’s cordial relationship with other countries, connecting the young generation of India with NRI brothers and how Indian workers abroad This is the purpose of celebrating Indian Pravasi Diwas to discuss about the difficulties one has to face.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman is an award instituted by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, presented by the President of India every year on January 9 on the occasion of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. This award is given to overseas Indians for their exceptional contribution in their respective fields.
