People all over the world have to suffer immense pain when eating ice cream and drinking cold water from broken or sensitive teeth. But scientists could not yet find the answer to this unsolved riddle that how this signal of pain reaches the brain. However, now scientists have found the answer and have attributed a protein called TRPC5 for this.
Scientists have found this protein in the odontoblasts cells found within the teeth. These cells form the tooth shell under the enamel. Odontoblasts are helpful in shaping teeth. Now scientists have discovered that these cells also act as cold sensors. These cells are able to do so because TRPC5 is an ion channel. Which allows a chemical like calcium like a gateway to send signals under certain conditions through cell membership. In this case it sends a cold signal.
Toothache can be cured through chewing gum!
New treatments can be developed based on these findings to help with toothache or hypersensitivity. Perhaps chewing gum or some medicine can devise a way to cover the teeth, which will save people from sensitivity. TRPC5 was previously identified as a potential temperature sensor. During tests conducted on mice, scientists found that those who do not have TRPC5 were reacting differently to cold. If the protin ion channel was closed through the medium of chemical, then it was seen to have some effect.
TRPC5 protein is also present in other parts of the body
After this, close monitoring was done on the teeth of humans. The tooth was placed in epoxy resins, after which it was carefully cut. Scientists found that the TRPC5 channel is also present in the odontoblast cells of the teeth. This confirmed the fact that it is these hands behind the mess in the teeth that work to send signals to the brain. The TRPC5 protein is also found in other parts of the body and these proteins are responsible for initiating chills and other biological actions. Now scientists have come to know that it is also present inside the teeth, so this means that now 2.4 billion people suffering from cavity can get relief.
After all, why clove oil is used in toothache? Found answer
In addition to this, it has also been found in this research that why clove oil has been used as a toothache treatment for centuries. Actually, it acts like a gel and spreads on the teeth. In this way it prevents TRPC5 from happening. It is no wonder that people have traditionally used oil to reduce sensitivity. Due to old age and other reasons, teeth become sensitive to cold after a time. During this time people have to face a lot of difficulties.
