Heavy rains are occurring in many states of the country including Kerala. Amidst the devastation caused by heavy rains in Kerala, the weather conditions are going to deteriorate in Uttarakhand, capital Delhi and West Bengal as well. An alert of heavy rain has been issued in West Bengal till October 20, while in Uttarakhand also, the warning of heavy rain in the next two days has scared. The government has closed schools and colleges as a precaution, while devotees have been advised not to go on Chardham Yatra for a day or two.
Meanwhile, the weather has started changing in the entire NCR including the national capital Delhi. Intermittent rain continues in Delhi-NCR starting from Sunday morning. In the early hours of Monday, heavy rain started in many areas of Delhi-NCR. Due to the rain, the temperature has also dropped, due to which people are also feeling cold. In view of the rain, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert.
At least 25 people have died in flash floods and landslides triggered by torrential rains in Kerala since Saturday. There are also reports of several houses getting washed away in the state. Along with this, many roads and pools have also been broken, due to which contact with many areas has been lost. IMD has issued a red alert for seven dams in Kerala. The water level here is continuously rising.
Uttarakhand Weather: Char Dham Yatra banned after heavy rain alert, schools will remain closed on October 8
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in Uttarakhand, warning of heavy rain on Sunday and Monday. Keeping this in mind, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has requested all the devotees performing Char Dham Yatra on Sunday to postpone the Yatra for one to two days.
Chief Minister Dhami said on Sunday that the IMD has issued a red alert warning of heavy rains on October 18 and 19. In view of this, we have made all the arrangements. I have spoken to the Chief Secretary and DM-SSPs of all the districts. He said that we, ministers and officials, will meet again today at 5:30 pm. We request all the devotees doing Chardham Yatra to postpone their Yatra for these two days.
After the red alert was issued for heavy rains, the Uttarkashi district administration has decided to keep all government and private schools closed on October 18. Officials said that the state government has directed all schools in Uttarkashi and Chamoli districts to remain closed on October 18. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in Delhi, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Bengal, Madhya Pradesh. Along with this, there is a possibility of heavy rain in the next few hours in many cities of UP-Delhi Haryana.
