Bhiwandi : With the important suggestion given by the Powerloom Problem Study Committee, it has been decided by the Ministry of Textiles to restore subsidy on powerloom units above 27 horsepower. Ministry of Textiles, Under Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, Vishal Madne has written a letter to Commissioner Textile Industries Nagpur (Nagpur) and directed to inform Mahavitaran immediately. The decision of the government has spread happiness among the powerloom owners.
It may be mentioned that under the decision of 22 October 2021 by the government, the Textile Industries Commissionerate, Nagpur was instructed to stop the subsidy on powerloom units more than 27 horsepower from 29 December 2021. As soon as the instruction to stop the subsidy on powerloom units above 27 HP, the Textile Industries Commissionerate immediately wrote a letter to Mahavitaran and stopped the subsidy being provided to the powerloom units with immediate effect. As per the order of the government, there was a furore in the powerloom industry as soon as Mahavitaran stopped the subsidy on more than 27 horse powerloom units from 29 December 2021. The powerloom industry was in serious trouble due to discontinuation of subsidy on powerloom units above 27 HP.

Powerloom owners in cities like Bhiwandi, Ichalkaranji, Malegaon, Dhulia, Kolhapur etc. had demanded restoration of subsidy on power loom units above 27 HP from the government to save the powerloom industry from crisis. Taking serious note of the most employable industry after agriculture in the entire country, Maharashtra Government Textiles Minister Aslam Shaikh held detailed discussions with the office bearers of powerloom organizations. On the instructions of Minister Aslam Shaikh, a committee of experts related to the powerloom industry was constituted to study the powerloom problem, in which Dr. Nooruddin Ansari and Rashid Tahir Momin from Bhiwandi have been made members. The officials of the Powerloom Study Committee, after collecting a lot of information from the problems of the powerloom owners, met the Minister of Textiles, Aslam Sheikh, and suggested that the subsidy being given for years should be restored immediately to solve the crisis that has plagued the powerloom industry due to the closure of the subsidy. Dr. Nooruddin Ansari, the principal member of the committee nominated by the government to study the problem of powerloom industry, has welcomed the restoration of subsidy. Dr. Ansari says that the powerloom industry has been in financial crisis for a long time. The textile policy of the Central Government has thrown a serious crisis on the industry. The industry which employs lakhs of people is standing on the verge of closure. The huge increase in electricity and yarn rates has created a serious crisis of livelihood for the powerloom holders. For the betterment of the powerloom industry, the government should give a special economic package including the resolution of all the problems. The new textile policy is very important for the powerloom industry to come out of the crisis.
