Uttarakhand Rains: Seven out of 11 trekkers who went missing in an avalanche on the Harsil-Chitkul Trek Route between Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh were found dead on Friday. The search and rescue team found their bodies at an altitude of 5,000 metres. According to News18, two trekkers are still missing and two have been rescued.
Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar said on Saturday that five more bodies of another group of 11 trekkers who went missing near Lamkhaga Pass have also been recovered. Among the trekkers who have been rescued is Mithun Dari, 32, from Bengal. Dari is currently undergoing treatment at Harshil Army Hospital.

Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Abid Hussain Sadiq said four trackers are still missing, while two have been rescued. The trekker team had left for Chitkul in Kinnaur district on October 11 from Harshil in Uttarkashi district of neighboring Uttarakhand, but went missing between October 17 and 19 at Lamkhaga pass due to bad weather, he said.
This pass is one of the most inaccessible passes, which connects Kinnaur district with Harshil. The Deputy Commissioner said that the rescue team found the bodies of five trekkers buried under snow at different places. The bodies were collected at one place and were sent to Uttarkashi by helicopter on Friday. He said that two trackers were rescued but the condition of one of them is said to be very critical.
He informed that the Army, Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Kinnaur Police are conducting a joint operation to trace the missing tracker. The trekker team had taken the Inner Line Permit from the Uttarkashi Forest Department.
The team members have been identified as Anita Rawat (38) from Delhi, Mithun Dari (31), Tanmay Tiwari (30), Vikas Makal (33), Saurabh Ghosh (34), Savian Das (28), Richard Mondal (30) from Kolkata. and Suken Manjhi (43). The kitchen workers present with the team have been identified as Devendra (37), Gyan Chandra (33) and Upendra (32) and all three are from Purola in Uttarkashi.
The Uttarakhand government had informed the Himachal Pradesh government about the disappearance of this team from the Lamkhaga pass, located at an altitude of 20,000 feet above sea level. The Deputy Commissioner said that after receiving this information, the ITBP and Army officials were contacted and the forces started the rescue operation on Thursday morning.
Let us inform that since Sunday night, Uttarakhand received heavy rains for almost three days. The death toll has risen to 68 while 24 others were injured in the calamity triggered by heavy rains in Uttarakhand.
