Raipur: In Chhattisgarh, Hindu religious guru Kalicharan Maharaj, who made indecent remarks on Mahatma Gandhi, has been sent to two-day police custody by the court. Kalicharan was arrested by Raipur district police in the early hours of Thursday from a rented house near Bageshwar Dham, about 25 km from Khajuraho city of Madhya Pradesh.
Raipur Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal said that after arresting Kalicharan alias Abhijit Dhananjay Sarag, the police reached Raipur this evening with him and produced him in the court of First Class Judicial Magistrate Chetna Thakur. The court has sent him to two-day police custody.
Aggarwal said that after a case was registered against Kalicharan at Tikrapara police station in the city, teams of Raipur Police were sent to Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi in search of him. A seven-member team of Raipur Police arrested Kalicharan today.
After Kalicharan’s arrest, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel shared a video from his Twitter account and said, “Mahatma Gandhi, who has given the message of peace, brotherhood, love, truth, non-violence and equality to the world. If someone uses abusive language about such a great man, then action will be taken against him. Chhattisgarh Police has taken this action. His family members have been informed. His lawyer has been informed. He will be produced in the court within 24 hours.” At the same time, in another tweet, the Chief Minister had said, “Justice should not be delayed so much that it seems like injustice.” (Agency)
