America slams China’s Hong Kong Move: The US (US) on Thursday has expressed strong opposition to the move of China (China) through which it is gaining more control over Hong Kong. At the same time, the US has said that it will raise the issue of massacre of Uygar Muslims in a meeting with Chinese diplomats next week. White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that Foreign Minister Antony Blinken and National Security Secretary Jake Sullivan will not back down on some issues when they meet Chinese diplomats on March 18 and 19 .
Saki says, “Whether it is the issue of Taiwan or the efforts to suppress democracy in Hong Kong or our concerns about economic relations (US slams China’s Hong Kong Move).” He said, “Addressing the massacre with Uighur Muslims is something that will be the subject of talks with the Chinese authorities next week.” However, China has always rejected the US claim, which calls for the genocide of Uygar and other Muslim minorities in Xinjiang province. At the same time, he describes the issues related to Taiwan and Hong Kong as his internal matter.
What action did China take on Hong Kong?
China’s parliament on Thursday approved a draft that would change Hong Kong’s election system. The move has been described by US State Department spokesman Ned Price as a ‘direct attack on Hong Kong’s autonomy, independence and democratic processes’ (What China Did in Hong Kong). In this move, China has said to reduce the role of the people in the election of regional rulers of Hong Kong and strengthen their control. In the National People’s Congress (NPC), 2,895 votes have been cast in favour of this change.
No one voted in protest
At the same time, one member did not participate in it. No member has voted against the protest. The vote was made in support of a change that would allow the Beijing-backed committee to appoint more Hong Kong MPs while reducing the number of delegates elected by the public (Chinese Parliament). The party is appointed by the members of the NPC (Chinese Parliament) and these members pass the plans of the party either by voice or by majority. The voting process took place in the ‘Great Hall of the People’ and during this time President Xi Jinping and other party leaders were present.
