There was a violent clash in the dispute over the closure of a tomb in Sindh province of Pakistan. In this incident, 50 people including policemen were injured. Authorities had decided to close the tomb due to Coronavirus restrictions. But there was a clash between the devotees and policemen who were opposing it. After this, the officers deployed paramilitary personnel outside Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine located in Sehwan of the province.
The reason behind this violent clash on Thursday night is a decision of the provincial government. In fact, the Sindh government has announced that it will shut down all the mausoleums of the province to stop the coronavirus. After this, hundreds of devotees who came to join the Urs of this tomb in Shahwan tried to enter the tomb, disregarding the government’s order.
Clash while entering the tomb on the occasion of Sufi Saint’s Urs
An official present near the tomb said that a large number of devotees arrived here on the occasion of the 769th Urs of Sufi Saint Lal Shahbaz Kalander. During this time, the policemen tried to push the devotees back, which became the reason for the dispute. After this, violent clashes started between the devotees and the policemen. There were kickbacks from both sides, in which 40 devotees and seven policemen were injured. All these people were taken from the hospital for treatment.
The devotees were unaware of the order of the government
Jamshoro Deputy Commissioner Capt Fariduddin Mustafa said that many devotees had come from outside Sindh. These people were living in Shahawan and its surrounding areas. They probably did not know the government orders, so these people started gathering near the tomb. Mustafa said that after the clash, paramilitary personnel were deployed in Lal Shahbaz Kalander Mazar on Friday. Let me tell you that in 2017 there was a suicide attack in this tomb, in which 90 people died and more than 300 people were injured.
