UP Second Phase Voting: According to a report, the richest candidate has assets worth Rs 296 crore in the second phase of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, while the poorest has only Rs 6,700. Voting will be held on February 14 for 55 assembly seats in the state spread over nine districts of western UP, Amroha, Bareilly, Bijnor, Badaun, Moradabad, Rampur, Saharanpur, Sambhal and Shahjahanpur.
The Uttar Pradesh Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) in a report said that they have analyzed the affidavits of 584 candidates out of 586 candidates who contested the second phase of elections.
The report said that Nawab Kazim Ali Khan, the Congress candidate from Rampur assembly seat, has declared assets worth Rs 296 crore.
She is followed by Supriya Aaron of Samajwadi Party from Bareilly Cantt seat with assets worth Rs 157 crore, while Devendra Nagpal of BJP from Naugawan seat has declared assets of Rs 140 crore.

On the other hand, Sanjay Kumar, who is contesting as an independent candidate from Shahjahanpur seat, has assets worth only Rs 6,700, with all movable and nil immovable assets.
Aam Aadmi Party’s Vishal Kumar (Nehtaur seat) and Usmal Malik (Saharanpur Nagar) come with assets of Rs 13,500 and Rs 15,000 respectively.
The report said that out of a total of 584 candidates in the second phase of elections, 260 (or 45 per cent) are crorepatis. Party wise, 52 out of 53 (98 percent) of BJP, 48 out of 52 (92 percent) of SP, 46 out of 55 (84 percent) of BSP, 2 out of 3 (67 percent) of RLD, 31 out of 54 (57 per cent) candidates of Congress and 16 (33 per cent) out of 49 candidates of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are crorepatis. His declared assets are more than one crore rupees.

The report found that the average assets per contesting candidate is Rs 4.11 crore. In terms of average assets per candidate among major parties, the SP’s figure stood at Rs 11.26 crore, followed by BJP (Rs 9.95 crore), Congress (Rs 8.20 crore), RLD (Rs 6.20 crore), BSP (Rs 5.74 crore) and AAP (Rs 1.60 crore).
The report said that 29 (or 5 per cent) candidates contesting the February 14 election have not declared their PAN details. ADR said, the role of money power in our elections is evident from the fact that all major political parties give tickets to candidates with money.
