In the middle of Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district, the police removed the farmers who had been sitting on a dharna for the last 40 days with light sticks on midnight on Wednesday. UP police also uprooted farmers’ tents. More than dozens of people were sitting in the dharna running on National Highway 709b, which the police have chased out of the picket and sent it back home. Police of several police stations reached the picket site under the direction of DM and SP, using light force, drove the farmers present at the picket site overnight.
The farmers were also hurt during the use of force, however, ADM Amit Bagh of Baghpat denied this and said that no force was used. He said that the dharna was ended in a very peaceful manner. However, the video of the police’s removal of farmers has surfaced on social media, in which lathicharge is seen. Farmers were sitting on a dharna on the Delhi-Saharanpur highway for the last 40 days against the new agricultural laws of the Center.
On Wednesday, throughout the day ADM Amit Kumar Singh and ASP Manish Mishra held talks with dharnarat farmers to end the dharna, but the farmers remained firm on their demands. Police administrative officers reached the picket with heavy police force at 11 o’clock and ended the picket, chasing the farmers. DM Rajkamal Yadav, SP Abhishek Singh, SDM Durgesh Mishra, CO Alok Singh etc. were present on this occasion.
In a statement to the media, Baghpat ADM Amit Kumar Singh said that the letter from NHAI had come to us. He requested that due to the performance of the farmers, their work is being hampered and the work is being delayed. So we asked the farmers to return in a peaceful manner. They left on their own peacefully. We had them shipped. In the past too, the district administration tried to remove the protesters from the spot. At present, the police force has been deployed in view of the tension on the spot.
