In UP, the Samajwadi Party (SP) will now contest the elections in alliance with the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia), the party of Shivpal Singh Yadav, uncle of Akhilesh Yadav. During a meeting today, both of them signed the agreement to contest the elections together. Even before the 2017 elections, there had been a lot of tension between uncle and nephew and Shivpal Singh Yadav had formed a new party. Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party formed several regional parties including the LLD (RLD) and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP). Already made an electoral alliance so that the division of votes against BJP can be stopped.

Akhilesh Yadav tweeted and said, “Meeted with the national president of PSP and the matter of alliance was decided. The policy of taking regional parties along is continuously strengthening the SP and taking the SP and other allies towards a historic victory. After a dispute with Akhilesh, Shivpal Singh Yadav formed a new party named Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia).
Akhilesh wants to stop division of votes in 2022
Last month, Shivpal Singh Yadav had said that he had met Akhilesh Yadav several times to forge an alliance with the Samajwadi Party or merge his party with it. However, Akhilesh did not take any initiative on this. But last month he said that he has full respect for his uncle. After this there were indications that he could contest the election with Shivpal Singh Yadav’s party. The Samajwadi Party has so far made an electoral alliance with the Rashtriya Lok Dal, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, Keshav Dev Maurya’s Mahan Dal, Krishna Patel-led Apna Dal. In 2017, the BJP had won 312 seats in UP, while the Samajwad Party had to be content with only 47 seats.
