UP Assembly Election 2022: Hearing a bail plea, the Allahabad High Court has asked PM Modi and the Election Commission to consider stopping and postponing the election. A single judge bench has made this comment in view of the increasing cases of the new Omicron variant of Corona. The High Court said that PM Modi and the Election Commission have asked to consider banning all political rallies and postponing the UP elections for the next few months. A bench of Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav made this remark while granting bail to applicant Sanjay Yadav in a case.
The High Court bench said that all political parties are mobilizing lakhs of people in rallies and at such times it is not possible to do covid protocol like social distancing. The court expressed apprehension that if it is not stopped, then a second wave can lead to a terrible situation.
The court also mentioned that due to the Gram Panchayat elections in UP and West Bengal assembly elections, the infection of corona increased due to which many people died.

The High Court has asked the Election Commission to ban political rallies and gathering of people at one place and order political parties to campaign through newspapers and TV channels. The High Court has also urged the Election Commission to postpone the UP elections by two to three months if possible. The court has cited the right to life under Article 21 to move the election forward. Justice Yadav has praised PM Modi for the vaccination program and asked him to consider postponing the rallies and gathering of people and postponing the upcoming state elections.
Assembly elections are to be held in five states next year
Assembly elections can be held in five states of the country including Uttar Pradesh between February and March next year. The Election Commission can soon announce the complete schedule regarding these elections.
