On the other hand, the UN Security Council on Thursday strongly condemned the violence being carried out on peaceful protesters and the death of hundreds of people (Myanmar Protests Background). The members of the committee have asked the army to exercise restraint. The coup was carried out on 1 February in Myanmar, which has now completed two months (Myanmar Protests Against Military Coup). A day ago there have been protests in many cities and people have demanded to restore democracy and release the detained leaders.
More than 500 people died
After a coup in Myanmar on February 1, security forces have taken stern action against the protesters. In spite of the prohibition against military rule by Western countries, incidents of firing against the protesters continue. In the country’s largest city Yangon, a group of youth sang mourning songs in memory of more than 500 people killed in the demonstration (Myanmar Protests After Coup). He then raised slogans against the junta regime (military government), demonstrating on the streets, demanding the release of ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi and restoring democracy.
Raids in many places
Protesters have also gathered in Mandalay and other cities. Earlier, the police raided several places and opened fire on the protesters. Some shops of the army’s investment unit ‘Myanmar Economic Holding Limited’ were set on fire in Yangon (Why Are Myanmar Protests Happening). These shops have been targeted since the early days of the demonstration. Dozens of civilians have been killed and more than 20,000 displaced since Saturday in several areas of Karin province. Free Burma Rangers, the organization that runs relief operations in the area, has told about this. According to local media, 11 people were killed on Tuesday in an airstrike in Karin’s gold mine.
