New Delhi: Sub Major (Honorary Captain) Yogendra Singh Yadav, who was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, the hero of Tiger Hill in the Kargil War in 1999, retired from the army on Saturday. The Indian Army bid farewell to this hero with a traditional necklace and flowers.

Repulsed the enemy with his courage
The bravery shown by Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav during the Kargil War in 1999 is written in golden letters in the history of the Indian Army. In fact, on July 4, 1999, Subedar Yadav of 18 Grenadiers had captured Tiger Hill in Dras area. This was a big attack on the enemies at that time, who had infiltrated and occupied there.
He was hit 15 times in the leg, chest, groin and arm during the Battle of Tiger Hill. Even his nose was hurt. Yogendra Singh Yadav had received 15 bullets in the Kargil war, apart from two hand grenade wounds on his body. But the enemies had to kneel before his courage. After this war he was hospitalized for 1 year.
This conflict between India and Pakistan lasted for 3 months, for which four people were awarded the Param Vir Chakra. One of them was Subedar-Major Yogendra Singh Yadav. Apart from him, Subedar Sanjay Kumar, Captain Vikram Batra and Lieutenant Manoj Pandey were awarded the Param Vir Chakra. Captain Vikram Batra and Lieutenant Manoj Pandey were martyred in this war. He was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra. Whereas, Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav and Subedar Sanjay Kumar survived in this battle.
Awarded the highest Indian military honour, the Param Vir Chakra, for action during the Kargil War on 4 July 1999. Grenadier Yadav, who received the Param Vir Chakra at the age of just 19, is the youngest soldier to receive this honour.
