Mumbai: While the number of Omicron patients from abroad is increasing in the state, on the other hand the number of people living in the state has also increased in the number of COVID infected. At present, there is a danger of spreading Omicron in the state, in view of this, the state government has decided to give emphasis on genome sequencing. Genome sequencing of all the patients coming positive in Mumbai and Pune will be started soon.
In view of the increasing cases of Omicron, the central government has directed the state government to start a community surveillance in Maharashtra. For which the cities most affected by Corona and currently the cities with the most Omicron patients, Mumbai and Pune have been selected. Through community surveillance, any patient who is infected with COVID in these two cities, then his sample will be sent for genome sequencing. So that it can be known that whatever variants are currently available in the city, they are suffering from which variant. So far, samples of COVID infected coming from abroad in Mumbai and only samples of serious COVID patients and people found positive from hot spots in Mumbai are sent for genome sequencing.
