Request to issue arrest warrant
Prosecutors in Taiwan requested to issue an arrest warrant against the owner of the vehicle on Saturday after a gruesome train accident on Friday due to the truck falling on a railway track. The accident occurred on the first day of the long weekend in the Toroko Gorge tourist area where many people were traveling by trains due to Taiwan’s strong rail network.
There were 494 people on the train at the time of the incident. The accident occurred when a truck from the construction site operated by the railway administration slipped from the top of the hill and hit the tracks. There was no one in the truck at that time. The train had left the tunnel when the incident occurred and most of it was inside the tunnel, forcing passengers trying to get out, had to climb windows, doors and roofs.

The administration initially confirmed the deaths of 51 people, but on Saturday, the number of dead was stated to be 50. According to the government’s Disaster Relief Center, the emergency brake of the truck was not working properly. President Sai Ing Wen visited hospitals near the accident site. Sai said on Friday that he has asked the Transport Safety Committee to investigate.
