New Delhi. According to the big news in the morning, from January 1, 2022, there will be many big and important changes related to the tax rate and process in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system. Of these, the tax liability on e-commerce service providers on services provided in the transportation and restaurant sector will also be included.
Apart from this, the change in the duty structure in the footwear and textile sector will also be applicable from January 1, 2022, under which all types of footwear will attract 12% GST (Goods and Services Tax) while all textile products (except cotton) including readymade garments will attract 12 per cent. %GST will be applicable.
At the same time, auto rickshaw drivers will also continue to get exemption on passenger transport services provided offline, but when these services are provided through an e-commerce platform, then they will also be taxed at the rate of 5% from the new year.
Similarly, it will be the responsibility of e-commerce service providers like Swiggy and Zomato to collect GST for the restaurant services provided by them and deposit the same with the government immediately. They will also have to issue bills from now on for such services.
There will be no effect on the general public
However, this will not impose any additional burden on the consumer as the restaurants are already collecting GST and revenue from their customers. Yes, the only change in this is that the responsibility of depositing taxes and issuing bills has now come to the food supply forums only.
Now this was done because it is estimated by the government that due to alleged non-disclosure of complete information by the food supply forums, the exchequer has suffered a loss of about Rs 2,000 in the last two years and by making these forums liable to deposit GST. Tax evasion will be stopped.
Not only this, some more steps will be taken in the new year to prevent tax evasion. These include making Aadhaar verification mandatory for getting GST refunds, stopping the GST-1 filing facility for businesses that have not paid taxes, etc. So get ready to see many major changes related to the tax rate and procedure in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system from the coming year.
