Ranchi: The Asian Waterbird Census 2022 was counted by the Forest Department at Lalmatia Dam in Latehar district under the Asian Waterbird Census 2022. Deputy Commissioner Abu Imran was present in the program as the chief guest. In the program organized by the Forest Department, mainly local water birds and migratory birds were identified and counted. The birds were photographed by the forest department’s team.
Deputy Commissioner Latehar, Abu Imran said on the occasion that apart from forests, mountains, waterfalls, there are beautiful birds of different species to see in Latehar district. Said that Latehar district has great potential for bird watching and eco-tourism. Organizing Asian Waterbirds Census in Latehar is a very good initiative. Forest Divisional Officer Roshan Kumar gave information regarding identification of migratory and local water birds. While told about the importance of birds, he talked about bringing awareness among the people about birds and protection of birds.

Birds of species like Common Kingfisher, Red-naped Ibis, Open Bill Stork, Common Comorant etc. were found during the census. On the occasion, discussions were held to build a bird watching tower in Lalmatia Dam and to develop eco-tourism. Along with this, Deputy Commissioner Latehar Abu Imran inspected the beautification work of Lalmatia Dam. He also visited the site for construction of cafeteria at Lalmatia Dam. But DPO Santosh Kumar Bhagat, Nazarat Deputy Collector Shivendra Kumar Singh, District Fisheries Officer Divya Gulab besides other officials were present.
