The Municipal Health Department has warned that the use of plastic bags and plastic material less than 75 microns thick will attract three months’ jail and a fine of Rs 25,000.
The Central Environment Department has implemented revised rules for plastic waste management in August 2021. As part of its implementation, the corporation has issued a notification. The first plastic ban was imposed in Maharashtra on items containing plastic bags less than 50 microns thick. According to the new rules, from September 30, plastic bags and other plastic items with a thickness of less than 75 microns will be banned.

In the next phase, with effect from December 31, 2022, all types of plastic materials with a thickness of less than 120 microns will be banned. Under this, the implementation of plastic ban rule has been started in the municipal limits. Further penalties will be imposed for the use, transportation or storage of banned plastic items and materials. There is a provision of five thousand rupees for the first offense, 10 thousand rupees for the second offense, 25 thousand rupees and three months imprisonment for the third offence. According to this notification, banned plastic items include plastics used for decoration and thermocol, sweet boxes, plastic kandi for balloons, plastic flag, ice cream candy, plates, cups, glasses, cutlery material, invitation cards, cigarette packets, plastic All types of plastic bags, bowls, bins, etc. except spoons, knives, drinking straws, trays, plastic or PVC banners less than 100 microns thick, garbage and nursery-use plastic bags.
12 tons of garbage collected in plogthon campaign
Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation and the Police Commissionerate on Saturday implemented the cleaning of the service road from Mukai Chowk to Wakad Highway in a plugathon campaign.
