West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said despite the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) recent victories in assembly elections in four states, it may be easier for the saffron party to win the upcoming presidential election. No, because it does not even have half of the total number of MLAs in the country.
Emphasizing that the “game is not over yet”, Banerjee said those who do not have even half of the total number of MLAs in the country should not talk big, because despite the defeat in the assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party like The parties are stronger than last time.
“President election will not be so easy for BJP this time. They don’t even have half of the total MLAs in the country. Opposition parties have more MLAs across the country,” Banerjee said in the assembly.
“The game is not over yet. Even parties like Samajwadi Party, which lost the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, have more MLAs than last time,” he said.
How will the presidential election be?
Presidential elections are conducted indirectly through an electoral college consisting of elected members of parliament and assemblies of states and union territories.
The number and value of votes of each voter in the state legislatures is worked out by a formula that takes into account the state’s population in 1971.

Ruckus in Bengal Assembly
Speaking on the budget discussion, TMC chief Banerjee lauded the state police for maintaining law and order in the state and dismissed allegations of political violence as “rumours spread by the opposition”.
Condemning the recent killings of two Congress and TMC councilors, Banerjee said the police were probing the cases and strict action would be taken without considering the political affiliations of the culprits.
The opposition BJP walked out of the house during Banerjee’s speech after the legislators of the opposition and the ruling party raised slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and ‘Jai Bangla’ respectively.
