Srinagar. A policeman was shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday, police said. Mainstream parties in the Valley are condemning the incident. Jammu and Kashmir Police Head Constable Ali Mohammad Ghani was shot dead by terrorists near his residence at Hasanpora in the Tabla area of Bijbehara in Anantnag, a police spokesman said.
Ghani was taken to a hospital in a critical condition where he died, they said. The spokesperson said, “Gani was posted at Kulgam police station. We pay tribute to the martyr and are with his family in this difficult time.”
He said that the police have registered a case and started investigation. Several parties and leaders have condemned the attack. National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah and party vice-president Omar Abdullah condemned the killing of the policeman.
“Violence in any form is always unacceptable and will lead to nothing more than death and destruction. The vicious cycle of death has caused great damage to human life in J&K during the last three decades, ravaging the socio-economic conditions of the people. Now is the time to stop such incidents.”
My condolences are with the bereaved family,” Farooq Abdullah said. Omar Abdullah tweeted, “Very sad to hear about the death of HC Ali Mohammad Ghani in the line of duty. I strongly condemn this attack and also express my heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May Allah bless them with paradise, Amen.”
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti tweeted, “Deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. The people of Jammu and Kashmir are the victims of this senseless cycle of violence that continues to kill innocents.” People’s Conference president Sajjad Lone tweeted, “Once again a gruesome act of senseless violence. Ali Mohammad Ghani of JK Police fell victim to the bullets of cowardly violent thugs. Salute to their sacrifice.”

His party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari also strongly condemned the killing of the policeman and termed the attack as cowardly and extremely heart-wrenching. Bukhari said violence has no place in any civilized society and cannot be justified.
He said, “How many more innocents are to be sacrificed and how many houses are still to be destroyed? These extremist forces have increased the hardships of the people and there is a need to end this senseless violence forever. I strongly condemn this heinous attack and express my deepest condolences to the family of the slain policeman.”
The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also condemned the attack. BJP general secretary, organisation, Ashok Kaul termed the killing as a “barbaric and cowardly act” which has no place in a civilized society. He expressed condolences to the bereaved family. (agency)
