In Gangapur Tehsil of the district, illegal sand traffic was going on for the last several years by the sand mafia keeping an eye on the secondary minerals.
A few months back, Satish Soni, who took over as Tehsildar of Gangapur, took strict action against the sand mafia of Asegaon campus of Waluj Mandal and imposed a fine of Rs 46 crore. To recover this amount, action has been taken to put burden on Sata Bara. Tehsildar Satish Soni, under the guidance of top officials, has created panic among the sand mafia due to this action.

Gangapur Tehsildar Satish Soni told that there is a provision to impose a fine of 5 times the market price for illegally digging and transporting sand. On the basis of that, Soni informed about the action being taken against the concerned sand mafia. He told that three sand thieves of Asegaon Shivar of Waluj Mandal have excavated about 16 thousand 138 brass sand. At the same time, two sand mafia of the same complex had excavated 675 Brass Murum. In such a situation, the administration decided to take strict action against the sand and mud mafia.

Tehsildar Soni said that Ahmed Usman Pathan, resident of Asegaon, who was illegally transporting sand, was fined Rs 25 crore 44 lakh 49 thousand 104. At the same time, Sheikh Kasam has been fined Rs 5 crore 42 lakh 2 thousand 176, Sheikh Hanif Sheikh Kasam Rs 19 crore 76 lakh 12 thousand 100 and Ajmal Khan Abbas Khan Pathan and Ejaz Khan Abbas Khan Pathan have been fined Rs 44 lakh 55 thousand.
The amount of fine will be recovered by auctioning the property.
Satish Soni told that notice was issued to him to collect fine from sand mafia. Regarding that, sand mafia gave its explanation in Gangapur Tehsil office. As their explanation is not a resolving factor, they will have to pay the fine. If the concerned sand mafia does not pay the fine, then the amount of fine will be recovered by auctioning their immovable property.
On the other hand, district administration sources said that this biggest action till now in Gangapur tehsil has been taken under the guidance of Tehsildar Soni. Sand would have been supplied extensively in the Walluz MIDC area. Due to which a big racket of sand mafia is working in this area. With whose blessings this racket was running till now, many questions are being raised about it. Last month, the revenue administration had imposed a burden of 6 crores on seven of the 27 sand mafias of Asegaon, Kasoda, Talesman, Nandeda and Mustafabad of the same division. Due to the strict action initiated by Tehsildar Satish, the sand mafia is sleepless.
