KolkataBJP’s internal strife in West Bengal deepened on Tuesday when suspended party leader Jaiprakash Majumdar undermined the “old people” and gave more importance to the new ones. Criticized the party leadership for giving and praised Trinamool Congress chief and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as a “street fighter”.
Majumdar was suspended along with Ritesh Tiwari for violating party discipline. Majumdar accused the state unit leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of tying up with the Trinamool Congress and in secret collusion with I-PAC, a consultancy run by Prashant Kishor.

“Old time and experienced leaders have no place in the state unit. Leaders of other parties, agents of Trinamool Congress are getting attention now.” In a press conference with Tiwari, Majumdar said, “BJP faced defeat in the assembly elections because leaders were running it from other states which disappeared after the defeat. Even at present, the BJP is being run by some outsiders. This will prove fatal for the BJP in the state.”
He lauded Banerjee as a “street fighter” during this period and said the state BJP was more dependent on “running the courts” on every issue rather than holding street protests against the Trinamool Congress. Taking a jibe at the political experience of state BJP president Sukant Majumdar and state general secretary (organisation) Amitabh Chakraborty, he said, “It appears that Bengal BJP is a team of novices playing against Argentina led by Lionel Messi. , and that too after only three days of practice.”
He said, “The whole country considers Mamata Banerjee as a national level leader with great mature and political knowledge. We may have political differences, but we have to accept the truth.” Both the leaders were issued show cause notices on Sunday and they were provisionally suspended from the party till the investigation against them is completed.
Majumdar said, “I want to know under which rule of the party’s constitution we were both suspended. This is not only immoral but also a violation of party discipline.” On the other hand, BJP state unit president Sukanta Majumdar reacted saying that the party is not bound to tell Majumdar under what rules the action was taken against the two.
“There is no such rule in the party constitution which compels us to tell them under which rule the action was taken. Secondly, all the steps have been taken following the rules and regulations of the party.” (agency)
