Mumbai: The risk of Omicron has increased in Maharashtra, which was most affected during both the waves of Coronavirus in the country. Amidst the fear of spreading this dangerous form, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has appealed to the citizens to avoid gatherings and parties during the upcoming Christmas festival and New Year. and warned of strict action against those violating the rules. On the other hand, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar has said that, we appeal to the people to follow the SOP issued by BMC and Mumbai Police.
According to ANI, the mayor said, “We have already issued SOPs for Christmas and New Year celebrations. There are currently no plans to ban Christmas and New Year’s parties. We appeal to the people to follow the SOP issued by BMC and Mumbai Police.

Let us tell you that in the midst of the upcoming festival season, tension has increased due to the cases of Omicron continuously coming to the fore in the country. According to official figures, so far 54 cases of Omicron form have been reported in Maharashtra. Of these, 22 cases have come to the fore in Mumbai, some of which were detected during the investigation at the international airport here.
In a press release issued on Sunday, Chahal had said that due to the new virus form Omicron, the situation has once again gone out of control in many countries of the world and a situation like lockdown has arisen. He said that despite repeated appeals by the government and administration to prevent a possible third wave of COVID-19, the guidelines are not being followed properly in most of the places – especially in wedding ceremonies and other functions. And there is a need to stop the increasing crowd in such events.

The BMC body has deployed squads at the ward level to take action against those violating the rules. Chahal has said that, “violators of COVID-19 rules will be strictly dealt with by the ward level teams of BMC as well as the Mumbai Police Administration.”
