    SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A particular prosecutor who doubles as a state legislator is stepping down from her position within the manslaughter case in opposition to actor Alec Baldwin within the dying of a cinematographer on a New Mexico movie set.

    Baldwin’s authorized crew in February sought to disqualify particular prosecutor and Republican state Rep. Andrea Reeb of Clovis based mostly on constitutional provisions that safeguard the separation of powers between distinct branches of presidency.

    Reeb stated in a press release Tuesday that she “will not allow questions about my serving as a legislator and prosecutor to cloud the real issue at hand.”

    District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies filed a notification in state district courtroom and declined additional remark.

    Baldwin and weapons supervisor Hannah Gutierrez-Reed have pleaded not responsible to fees of involuntary manslaughter within the capturing dying of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The fees carry a most penalty of 18 months in jail and fines.

    Hutchins died shortly after being wounded Oct. 21, 2021, throughout rehearsals for the Western movie “Rust” at a ranch on the outskirts of Santa Fe. Baldwin was pointing a pistol at Hutchins when the gun went off, killing her and wounding the director, Joel Souza.

    Prosecutors say assistant director David Halls, who oversaw security on set, has signed an settlement to plead responsible within the negligent use of a lethal weapon.

    In her position as legislator, Reeb has sponsored a number of legal justice initiatives, together with enhanced punishments for firearms violations.

    The Republican from Clovis steered away from voting on public spending to prosecute Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed.

    She was excused from a House flooring vote in February on a proposed state funds that features $360,000 for particular prosecution bills within the deadly film-set capturing.
