Mumbai: Seven people died in a massive fire on Saturday morning on the 18th floor of Kamala Building in Mumbai’s Tardeo area. While more than 12 people were injured. Three of the injured are in critical condition. A BMC official gave this information.
A Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said the fire broke out at ‘Kamala’, a building opposite Gandhi Hospital in Gowalia Tank, around 7 am. “It is a 20-storey building,” he said. The fire started on its 18th floor. On getting information, fire brigade personnel and police reached the spot. 13 fire tenders and seven water tankers have been pressed into service in the firefighting operation.” He said it has been described as a third level (gruesome) fire.

Several people were injured in the fire and 15 of them were taken to the nearby Bhatia Hospital while four others were taken to Nair Hospital, the official said. He said doctors at Nair Hospital told that two of them had died before being brought to the hospital, while the condition of the remaining two was stable and being treated.
At the same time, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar, who reached the spot after the incident of this fire, said that 6 elderly people were in need of oxygen support system and they have been shifted to the hospital. The fire has been brought under control but there is a lot of smoke.
The doctors at Bhatia Hospital have informed that 12 of the 15 injured have been admitted to the general ward, the official said. Three others are in critical condition and are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The fire has been brought under control at present.
