Mumbai: At least seven people, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with the murder of a man by shooting in Dharavi area of Mumbai. The police gave this information on Thursday. An official said that Aamir Anees Khan was shot at to establish the dominance of the ‘K Company’ gang in the Dharavi area. The officer said that two persons allegedly shot Khan during the defecation on the morning of February 12.
The official said Khan had enmity with another local gang that wanted to dominate the area. He said that during the course of investigation, Unit-5 of Mumbai Crime Branch checked the old mobile phones and social media accounts of the suspects. Based on confidential information, one accused was arrested from Surat in Gujarat while five others including a woman were nabbed from Mumbra, Kurla and Wadala.

The officer said that during interrogation it emerged that Kaleem Rauf Sayed, the kingpin of ‘K Company’ gang, had hatched a conspiracy to kill Khan. They said Sayed was already in jail in a drug case and was booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). Deputy Commissioner of Police (Research) Nilotpal said that during a court hearing last year, the main accused along with his accomplices hatched a conspiracy to murder and they obtained arms from Aligarh and Kolkata.
On the day of the incident, two persons shot Khan in Dharavi and fled on a motorcycle after committing the crime, the official said. Two pistols, one country-made pistol and 15 rounds were recovered from the accused. Another official said that the crime branch has taken Syed into its custody from jail for further investigation in the murder case.
