Mumbai: In view of the Mumbai Municipal Elections, preparations are being made to start some projects of the city soon. The extension route of Santacruz-Chembur Link Road being prepared by MMRDA is planned to be opened by April. It was informed that there are plans to open a section of 1.8 km of SCLR expansion project on Hansburg Road between Hotel Grand Hyatt and McDonald’s Junction near Raza Chowk in Santacruz.
According to MMRDA, part of the first phase of this expansion project will be opened for one-way traffic. MMRDA Commissioner SVR Srinivas has directed to complete this work soon. Recently, the commissioner visited the workplace and also held a review meeting.

connectivity will be easy
The expansion work of the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) elevated corridor is being carried out in two phases. Kurla East-West connectivity will become easier through SCLR. It aims to help airport-bound vehicular traffic to reach BKC within minutes by reducing the traffic at Vakola Junction.
Work started in 2016
Although the construction of this extension started in the year 2016, a plan of Rs 481 crore was made for this. Now the delay in the project has also increased its construction cost. On completion of the first phase, the Eastern Express Highway to Western Express Highway will be accessible in 45 minutes, while the second phase extension will reduce the travel time between BKC and Western Express Highway by 35 minutes.
65 percent work completed
It was informed that till now about 65 percent work has been completed in both the phases. 1.8 km of the first phase is expected to be opened by April. The construction cost has increased with the project getting delayed due to COVID. Its length is 6.45 km. The Western Express Highway on the West End, Santa Cruz and the Eastern Express Highway on the East End will extend to Tilak Nagar and Chembur.
