Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party on Tuesday declared Pawan Pandey as its candidate from Ayodhya Assembly constituency for the ongoing assembly elections in the state. Tej Narayan Pandey alias Pawan Pandey was a minister in the Akhilesh Yadav-led council of ministers in the SP government from 2012 to 2017 and was elected from the Ayodhya assembly constituency. However, in the 2017 assembly elections, he lost from the same seat to BJP’s Vedprakash Gupta.
The Samajwadi Party on Tuesday released the third list of 39 candidates of the party in view of the upcoming assembly elections. SP has given ticket to Madhuri Verma from Nanpara (Bahraich). Former UP minister Yasar Shah has been declared as the SP candidate from Bahraich, while former MLA Mukesh Srivastava will be the party’s candidate from Payagpur assembly constituency in Bahraich.

The party has also fielded Gulshan Yadav as its candidate from Kunda assembly constituency in Pratapgarh district. Kunda is the stronghold of 6-time independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya. The SP did not field any candidate from Kunda in the 2017 and 2012 elections. The party has re-nominated its sitting MLA Ujjwal Raman Singh (son of party veteran Revathi Raman Singh) from Karchana in Prayagraj district.
Hakim Chand Bind, who broke away from the BSP, has been made the party’s candidate from Handia in Prayagraj. Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7 and the results will be declared on March 10.(agency)
