Russia-Ukraine War: A spokesman for Europe’s largest nuclear power plant said a reactor fire broke out after a Russian power plant was attacked in the southern Ukrainian city of Enerhodar. A government official told The Associated Press (AP) that radiation levels at a nuclear power plant have been found to be elevated in the area around the Zaporizhia Nuclear Plant. About 25 percent of the country’s electricity is produced at this place.
Meanwhile, the statement of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has come to the fore. Kuleba tweeted urging the Russians to halt the attack and allow firefighters inside.
He said that the Russian army is firing on Europe’s largest nuclear power plant from all sides, the fire has already started. The foreign minister warned that if it explodes, it will be 10 times more dangerous than Chernobyl.
Plant spokesman Andrey Tuz told Ukrainian television that it was important to stop fighting to put out the fire. Russian forces have been fighting since Thursday for control of the Ukrainian city of Enerhodar, which houses Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, and has also struggled to cut off the country from the sea. The country’s leaders have called on citizens to wage a guerrilla war against the invaders.

Immediately after the Russian attack, the Ukrainian foreign minister warned the whole world, including Russia, that the consequences at the Zapsorizhia plant would be worse. Kuleba tweeted that if it exploded, it would be 10 times bigger than Chornobyl! The Russians should immediately stop the fire. Firefighters should be allowed. A safety zone should be established.
Enerhodar produces one-fourth of the country’s electricity. The fighting there comes as Russia and Ukraine reached a tentative agreement in the second round of talks to create a safe corridor for the evacuation of civilians and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
