New Delhi: Due to rising air pollution levels in Delhi, the number of people visiting the market, commercial and tourist places has come down by 33 percent. This information was revealed in a new study. Climate tech startup Blue Sky Analytics and data analytics company Near have announced their impact on the number of people visiting New Delhi’s popular shopping, commercial and tourist destinations – Karol Bagh, Lodhi Gardens and Connaught Place. The effects of high levels of pollution have been studied.
The study was conducted over a period of six months from October 2019 to March 2020. This period was divided into weeks and the ‘first week’ of the study was taken from 1 October 2019. The researchers compared rising pollution levels with the number of people visiting the sites with air quality data provided by Blue Sky Analytics. In this, the help of ‘Machine Learning’ technology was taken. The study found that in Connaught Place, between week 10 and week 14, when PM2.5 particles were 336 micrograms per cubic metre, the number of people visiting dropped from 17,000 per day to 14,000 per day.
