Raghuram Rajan Birthday: Raghuram Rajan was born on 3 February 1963 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. One of the country’s most celebrated economists and former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor turned 59 today. At the age of 50, Raghuram Rajan became the youngest governor of the Central Bank of India (RBI). He was born in a Tamil family and his father was a senior IAS officer in the Government of India. Raghuram Rajan did his early education from Delhi Public School located in RK Puram, Delhi.
The full name of the former RBI Governor is Raghuram Govinda Rajan. He has done his graduation from IIT Delhi. He did B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi in the year 1985. At the same time, in the year 1987, he did his post graduate in Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. Raghuram Rajan has done his PhD from the world’s prestigious university Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Rajan is also called the James Bond of the Indian economy and even the rock star economist. Raghuram Rajan completed his term as RBI Governor from September 2013 to September 2016. Raghuram Rajan served as the Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from October 2003 to December 2006. In 2008, Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh appointed Raghuram Rajan as his Economic Advisor.

Rajan has authored books like ‘The Third Pillar’ and ‘Fault Lines: How Hidden Fractures Still Threaten the World Economy’.

Talking about Raghuram Rajan’s personal life, Rajan’s mother’s name is Mythili and father’s name is R Govind Rajan. In 1966, his father was transferred to Indonesia. Because of this his family had to move out. Rajan also has a brother and sister. He married his college friend Radhika Puri. Radhika and Rajan met while studying at IIM Ahmedabad. Radhika currently teaches at the University of Chicago Law School. Rajan has two children.
