A 35-year-old Quincy man accused of a “nightmarish attack” on a lady within the South End Saturday evening earlier than a Good Samaritan stepped in to defend the sufferer has been ordered held with out bail, in accordance with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Amos Sykes is dealing with fees of indecent assault and battery on an individual 14 or over, and assault and battery (accidents) following the weekend’s alleged assault within the space of W. Canton Street and Appleton Street.
Sykes is accused of punching a lady within the head as he sat on high of her, a number of witnesses advised Boston Police. The sufferer was screaming in the course of the assault, the witnesses advised police.
When cops arrived on the scene, they noticed a Good Samaritan preventing with Sykes, who then tried to get away from the cops. Sykes was rapidly apprehended.
According to Boston Police, the lady earlier than the assault had been strolling on Columbus Avenue when the suspect grabbed her from behind, compelled her onto the bottom and commenced punching her within the head.
Sykes tried to take her garments off earlier than a witness stepped in to battle off Sykes. Boston EMS transported the sufferer to an area hospital with non-life threatening accidents.
“This was a nightmarish attack that left the victim bloodied and bruised, and would likely have resulted in an even worse outcome if not for the extraordinarily brave intervention of a Good Samaritan,” Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden mentioned following Sykes’ arraignment on Monday.
“In cases like this the victim’s injuries often transcend the physical,” Hayden added. “Our office has advocates specially trained to treat this type of trauma, and they will be by this victim’s side throughout the court process and after. I thank Boston Police for their quick response and arrest and I am especially grateful for this Good Samaritan’s courageous action.”
Sykes was ordered held with out bail pending a dangerousness listening to on Wednesday.
Detectives from District D-4, together with the Boston Police Sexual Assault Unit, will proceed to analyze the incident.
