Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday lost both his assembly seats – Bhadaur and Chamkaur Sahib – to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidates. According to the Election Commission website, Channi was defeated by Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate Labh Singh Ugoke by a huge margin of 37,558 votes from Bhadaur seat.
Addressing the voters of Punjab after AAP’s massive and historic victory in Punjab, party supremo Arvind Kejriwal said: “Do you know who defeated Charanjit Singh Channi? AAP candidate Labh Singh Ugoke, who works in a mobile repair shop.”
Who is Labh Singh Ugoke?
Labh Singh Ugoke had joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2013 as a volunteer. His father is a driver, while his mother is a sweeper in a government school. According to the affidavit given to the Election Commission, Labh Singh Ugoke has only 75 thousand rupees in cash. Apart from this, he has an old bike of 2014 model and a two-room house.
Was already confident of victory
Labh Singh Ugoke had expressed confidence even before voting for the assembly elections that Channi would face a crushing defeat from this reserved seat. Ugoke, 35, also questioned Channi’s “ordinary” background, saying that Channi was wearing the mask of a common man. Ugoke claimed that Channi had absolutely no understanding of the Bhador assembly issues, due to which He faced defeat. “I have 74 villages in my assembly and I know the problems of all the villages,” he said.

He said, “For me Bhadaur is not an assembly seat, but my family. Channi sahib doesn’t even know the names of 10 villages of Bahadur. For Channi sahib Bhadaur is just an assembly seat.” Labh Singh Ugoke has studied up to 12th standard. He said that now it is his responsibility to solve the problems of the people of the area.
Channi was earlier MLA from Chamkaur Sahib
Channi was earlier an MLA from Chamkaur Sahib assembly seat. However, apart from Chamkaur Sahik, the Congress party had also fielded him from Bhadaur assembly seat. While Aadmi Party had fielded Labh Singh Ugoke, Akali Dal had nominated Satnam Singh Rahi and Punjab Lok Congress had fielded Dharam Singh Fauji.
