Punjab Elections 2022: The atmosphere in the state is in full swing regarding the assembly elections to be held on February 20 in Punjab. Along with this, it is also being discussed that this time in Punjab, the candidate of which party is the richest and whose wealth is the least. Three candidates for the assembly elections in Punjab have declared in their affidavits that they have assets between Rs 2,000 and Rs 4,200 only.
Harchand Singh, 62, an independent candidate who contested the 2022 Assembly elections from Payal constituency in Ludhiana, has declared assets worth only Rs 2,000, which are deposited in the bank in the name of Singh and his wife.
Apart from this, 25-year-old Munish Kumar of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) has declared that he has assets worth only Rs 2,100. According to his affidavit, Rs 2,000 is in cash in his hand and Rs 100 is deposited in his bank account.
He is contesting from Bhoa constituency in Pathankot district. Kumar’s fellow party member and candidate from Amritsar (North) Davinder Singh has declared that he has only Rs 4,200 with him. In contrast, the richest candidates of Punjab have assets worth crores.

According to the report, the candidates contesting the assembly elections have an average assets of Rs 4.31 crore and in 2017 this figure was 3.49 crore. Kulwant Singh, the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) candidate from Mohali, has declared assets worth Rs 238 crore.
According to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms, it is followed by Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and Congress leader Karan Kaur Brar who have assets of Rs 202 and Rs 155 crore respectively. Brar is in the fray from Muktsar.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi is also included in the list of crorepati candidates contesting the assembly elections. He has declared assets of more than Rs 9 crore in his election affidavit. Channi is the Congress chief ministerial candidate for the 2022 elections.
At the same time, 25 per cent of the 1,276 candidates in the fray for the Punjab Assembly elections have declared criminal cases against them. This information has been given in a report prepared by Punjab Election Watch. Punjab Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on February 20. Counting of votes will take place on March 10 along with Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand.
