Punjab Election Result 2022: For the first time in the Punjab Assembly elections, the people of the state have made 12 MBBS doctors as MLAs. For the first time in history, 12 MBBS doctors defeated their opponents to make their way into the Punjab Legislative Assembly. Of the total 12 doctors, nine belong to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and one each from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
The doctors who have won the Punjab assembly elections are Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal from Tarn Taran, Dr. Charanjit Singh from Chamkaur Sahib, Dr. Inderbir Nijjar from Amritsar East, Dr. Baljit Kaur from Malout, Dr. Vijay Singla from Mansa, Dr. Moga from Moga. Amandeep Kaur Arora, Dr. Ravjot Singh from Sham Chaurasi and Dr. Balbir Singh from Patiala Rural. All these MLAs belong to the Aam Aadmi Party. Apart from this, Dr. Nachhatar Pal of BSP has won from Nawanshahr and Dr. Shukwinder Kumar Sukhi of SAD has won from Banga constituency.
AAP came to power by winning 92 seats in Punjab
In Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party won 92 out of 117 seats in the state assembly in the counting of votes held on Thursday, March 10, leaving the Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal-BSP alliance far behind. In this election, big leaders like Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) stalwart Parkash Singh Badal, his son Sukhbir Singh Badal, former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu had to face defeat.
While AAP has won three-fourth of the seats in the state, Congress has to be satisfied with 18, SAD 3, BJP 2 and Bahujan Samaj Party 1 seat. An independent candidate has also won the election. AAP will now form government in another state of the country after Arvind Kejriwal’s government in Delhi.

While AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal termed the party’s performance in Punjab as a “revolution”, his party leader Raghav Chadha said AAP will emerge as an alternative to the Congress at the national level in the coming days. The Congress had won 87 seats in the 1992 assembly elections, the highest number of seats after the reorganization of Punjab in 1966.
Giants had to face defeat
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi lost from both Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur assembly seats. At the same time, former Chief Ministers Parkash Singh Badal and Amarinder Singh have also faced defeat. Akali leader Sukhbir Singh Badal also lost. Congress’s Punjab unit president Navjot Singh Sidhu, senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia and several ministers of the Punjab government had to face defeat.
AAP’s chief ministerial candidate Bhagwant Mann won from Dhuri by a huge margin of 58,206 votes. Mann said that the swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet of Punjab would be held at Khatkar Kalan, the native village of great freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in Nawanshahr district.
In the 2017 assembly elections in Punjab, the Congress ousted the 10-year-old Akali Dal-BJP coalition government, winning 77 seats. AAP got 20 seats in that election, while Akali Dal-BJP got 8 seats.
