Pimpri: The controversy over Pune International Airport has deepened again. The Defense Ministry has shown a red signal for the planned airport in Purandar. After this, BJP MLA Mahesh Landge has reiterated the demand that a proposed international level airport should be built in Khed taluka. Therefore, local leaders of BJP, Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party of Pimpri-Chinchwad including Shirur Lok Sabha constituency may come face to face on the issue of airport.
The Purandar International Airport, which has been in constant discussion over the issue of space, has been derecognised by the Union Defense Ministry. So while searching for a new location, the demand for an airport in Khed taluka near Pimpri-Chinchwad is again gaining momentum. The Defense Ministry has refused site clearance for the proposed new airport in Purandar taluka. Therefore the Mahavikas Aghadi i.e. the state government will have to give an explanation.

Airport case is pending for 10 years
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Mahesh Landge said that it is very important to have an international airport in the industrial area of Pune district. The airport issue is pending for the last 10 years. After the site at Purandar was selected by the then Fadnavis government in the state, the Mahavikas Aghadi government replaced the site. Now the Defense Ministry has denied the site clearance. In view of the future 25 years of industrial hub at Talegaon-Chakan-Ranjangaon in the industrial area of Pune district and residential corridor at Pimpri-Chinchwad, we strongly demand that Khed Taluka should have an international standard airport. He also expressed hope that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will take a positive decision in this regard.
