New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday condoled the loss of lives in the stampede at Vaishno Devi Bhawan in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, saying all possible efforts were being made to provide relief to those injured in the unfortunate incident. Huh. In the program organized for the release of funds under the ‘PM-Kisan’ scheme, Modi said that he has spoken to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha in this regard.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in the stampede at Vaishno Devi Bhawan complex,” the Prime Minister said. Modi said that the central government is in constant touch with the Jammu and Kashmir government and relief work is being done. Earlier, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced ex-gratia for the next of kin of the dead and the injured.

The PMO tweeted, “The families of those who lost their lives in the stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan will be given an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
50-50 thousand rupees will be given to the injured. At least 12 people were killed and over 12 injured in a stampede that broke out due to a huge crowd of devotees at Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir. The stampede took place near gate number three outside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple at around 2.30 pm last night. Mata Vaishno Devi Temple is situated on Trikuta mountain, about 50 km from Jammu. (agency)
