New Delhi. Paying tributes to eminent social activist Sindhutai Sapkal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that many children have been able to lead a better life because of his efforts. Known as the “mother of orphans”, Sapkal died on Tuesday at a private hospital in Pune after suffering a heart attack.
Sapkal, who was awarded the Padma Shri last year, was 73. Growing up in poverty, Sapkal had to face great difficulties in childhood. He established institutions for orphans. She has adopted and cared for more than a thousand orphans in 40 years.
Dr. Sindhutai Sapkal will be remembered for her noble service to society. Due to her efforts, many children could lead a better quality of life. Modi tweeted, “Dr Sindhutai Sapkal will always be remembered for his outstanding service to the society. It is because of his efforts that many children have been able to lead a better life.”
