New Delhi: In a scathing attack on the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that the opposition party has in a way come under the control of Urban Naxals and the biggest threat to democracy is from family parties. . He suggested the opposition party to change its name from “Indian National Congress” to “Federation of Congress”. Prime Minister Modi said this without naming former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, attacking him for saying that “India is not a nation and it is a union of states”.
Responding to a discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address in the Rajya Sabha, Modi said that during the discussion many members spoke of danger to democracy but they forgot that this democracy is not by their grace. He said that Congress is in a way under the control of urban Naxalites and they are controlling its thoughts and ideology. He said, “India is the mother of democracy and it is discussed in the world, but the problem of Congress is that they have not thought anything in front of familyism. The Prime Minister said that when one family becomes paramount in a party, its first loss is that of talent. The Prime Minister urged all political parties to inculcate democratic ideals and values in their respective political parties.
He said that the Congress as the oldest party of India must take responsibility for this. The Prime Minister said that the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi had talked about the extinction of the Congress after the country’s independence, and had this happened, the country would not have had to deal with various problems for decades. He said that if the Congress was not there as per the wishes of Mahatma Gandhi, then democracy would have been free from familyism and India would have followed the path of indigenous resolutions instead of foreign ones.
He said, “If there was no Congress, there would not have been a stigma of Emergency… If there was no Congress, corruption would not have been institutionalized for decades. So Sikhs would not have been massacred… For years, Punjab would not have been burnt in the fire of terrorism….. If there was no Congress, there would have been no incidents of burning of daughters in the tandoor…. Common people do not have to wait for so many years for basic facilities like roads, electricity, water and toilets.”
The Prime Minister said that till the time the Congress was in power, it did not allow the development of the country and today when it is in opposition, it is obstructing the development of the country. Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s statement that “India is not a nation and it is a union of states”, the Prime Minister said that now even the Congress has objections to the “nation” for India.
He said the imagery was “unconstitutional”. He said in a questioning manner that Congress has so much objection to the word ‘Rashtra’, then why has it kept national in the name of its party. “Then why has your party been named Indian National Congress. If you have got a new thinking, then change the name of Indian National Congress and make Federation of Congress. Correct the mistake of your ancestors.”
Congress members protested these words of the Prime Minister and after some ruckus, all its members walked out of the house. The Prime Minister’s attack on the Congress continued even after he left the House. He said, “Not only is listening in a democracy, listening is also a part of democracy. But for years he had a habit of preaching. That’s why they are finding it difficult to hear things.”
