Congratulating the people of the state at the inauguration of the Durbar Hall, President Kovind said that the greatness of the state of Maharashtra has different dimensions. Trying to build ‘Lok Bhavan’: Governor Koshyari
Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari said that during his tenure of two and a half years, I made serious efforts to make Raj Bhavan a Lok Bhavan. As the Chancellor, I had advised universities to contribute more in the Corona period. He said that efforts have been made to start defense courses in the universities of the state as well as an institute of marine science at the University of Mumbai. Referring to his efforts to provide proper houses, land to about 23000 people of the tribal Katkari community, he announced that he would soon open a gallery of freedom fighters in the underground basement (bunker) of the Raj Bhavan. The Governor expressed his gratitude to the laborers working tirelessly in the construction of the Durbar Hall at Raj Bhavan. He praised all the laborers for the construction of the beautiful Durbar Hall, which had faced difficulties during the two and a half years of its construction.
Best Raj Bhavan in the country: Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray
Surrounded by the sea on three sides, the Raj Bhavan of Maharashtra is the best Raj Bhavan in the country and such a structure cannot be found anywhere else. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said he had met former President Giani Zail Singh along with Shiv Sena chief and several other governors at the Raj Bhavan. Durbar Hall Design
The new Durbar Hall at Raj Bhavan is built on the site of the old Durbar Hall and has a seating capacity of 750. The old hall had a seating capacity of 225. While retaining the heritage features of the old Durbar Hall, the new hall has been provided with additional facilities like balconies and sea view, gallery. The Durbar Hall was built in 1911 during the visit of Maharaja George V and Queen Mary of England to India. It was designed by the then architect George Wittet. After more than a hundred years of waves and storms, the former court hall was dilapidated. Therefore its use was discontinued after 2016.
