Lucknow: Ganga in Kanpur and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, Saryu in Ayodhya and Yamuna in Mathura-Vrindavan Pollution Free ) are on the way. Improvement in the water quality of rivers
On the same lines, in order to make Yamuna river pollution free in Mathura-Vrindavan, the government under the Namami Gange program tapped 20 drains at a cost of Rs.460.45 crore, along with construction of STP of 30 MLD in Mathura and Rs.42.82 crore in Vrindavan. Tapping 5 drains as well as renovation and upgradation of 4 MLD STPs at a cost of Rs. Significantly, 72 more drains falling in Ganga and its tributaries, Yamuna, Ramganga and Saryu have been tapped in a year. Three-tier monitoring of every task
Anurag Srivastava, Principal Secretary, Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Department said that a campaign is being run on a war footing to make the rivers pollution free. Especially the big metropolis from where major rivers like Ganga, Yamuna and Saryu pass. Along with tapping the drains there, new STPs are being started. Three-tier monitoring is being done for every plan and every work related to the cleanliness of rivers.
The water quality of Saryu started improving in Ayodhya
Under the Namami Gange program, all the drains falling into the holy river Saryu in the religious and mythological city of Ayodhya are being tapped and contaminated water is being transported to the sewerage treatment plant. This has improved the water quality of the holy river Saryu in Ayodhya. Here a big work of tapping 5 drains by I&D method has been done at a cost of 37.67 crores. Along with this, the construction work of 12 MLD STP has also been completed.
The nature of river Ganga changed in Kanpur
The form of river Ganga has changed in Kanpur city. Here in Bithoor 7 drains have been tapped by I&D method at a cost of 13.40 crores. The sewage water is being treated at STP and purified. Due to this the pollution of river Ganges is now on its way to end. Under the Namami Gange program, work has also been done on the sewerage scheme at a rapid pace. The work of laying 106.67 km of sewer lines has been completed with a sewerage plan of 430.49 crores. Along with this, 10350 sewer house connections have been made and the work of desilting 182 km in the river Ganga has been completed.
